A obra foi realizada a partir da gravação, sob a direção dos artistas, de uma seleção de alguns artigos específicos da Carta dos Direitos Fundamentais da União Européia, na sede do Parlamento Europeu em Bruxelas. O registro do audio foi gravado em 6 línguas e mixado com imagens, capturadas por um sistema de busca na internet atualizado, de certos aspectos da realidade européia que se contrapõe ao texto da Carta.

Socket Screen is a performance in which the audience directly takes part in the audiovisual creation, through a web application for smartphones created by the artists. The public becomes part of the collective intervention.
By accessing the web application on their phones, the audience is directly connected with the performance, experiencing individually and collectively the real-time audiovisual composition projected onto the Oi Futuro Cultural Center’s facade.

SocketScreen é a plataforma onde o público interage diretamente na criação audiovisual através da aplicação web para celulares smartphones. O público, que acessa a aplicação web, é convidado a escrever palavras-chave. Estas palavras-chave são utilizadas pela plataforma para buscar na internet, em tempo real, imagens relativas às palavras. Além de enviar as palavras-chave, o público pode interagir com suas próprias imagens utilizando o recurso do touch-screen do smarthphone, tornando-se assim, parte de uma intervenção coletiva.

Parallel to the Dialoghi e Musica the Micro Screening CINEVIDEO 01 – Expanded Dialogues in Vignanello was presented at Castello Ruspoli by Rachel Rosalen and Rafael Marchetti.

During this event in Vignanello cinema will be approached from a larger perspective, based on what can be called expanded cinema. It is difficult today to speak about a small European town without thinking that many of them are part of the European Union and that this relationship affects – and much – all that we understand as local. With specificities of contexts that are closer to the country side, small towns are (and are not) included in this relationships of exchange, exchange of goods or exchange of knowledge. The Internet has been shortening the distances however in many cases without face to face experience and the direct contact with other values and contexts, it is difficult to rethink practices, our own and of the others, as differential.

This program was put together by Rachel Rosalen and Rafael Marchetti, which includes works that explore the video support as language and approach different types of media archeology, the notion of territories, local and global, places and non-places.

La obra StrangeLove trata el pensamiento que esta por detrás de la construcción de las máquinas, basado en la edición de fragmentos de documentales de la internet mesclados con cine de ficción.

En 1988 la empresa aérea Airbus realizo el primer vuelo comercial de la historia controlado por computadora. La idealización de esta aeronave implicó en aspectos estatísticos que colocan al ser humano como el mayor responsable por los accidentes aéreos. Por consecuencia, la decisión racionalizada fue colocar la computadora en el lugar del piloto.

Esta situación nos hace pensar donde esta el fino hilo que separa la ambición del pensamiento de los constructores de estas máquinas y la falta lucidez. El fetiche de la tecnología aliado a la perversión delirante de sus idealizadores creando máquinas que se transforman en trampas como reflejo de sus propias locuras.

HISTORICAL

The first implantation of Territories Complexity was in 2007, as a site-specific installation at SESC Paulista Art Gallery. Paulista Avenue is 2.8 Km long and has a conglomeration of skyscrapers holding public and private administration responsible for 46% Brazilian GDP. Paulista Ave. has 22 heliports, 40 telecommunication antennas, the flux of 1.5 million people, 100 thousand vehicles and 100 helicopter takeoffs per day. Based on this information, this economical area was mapped using different capturing devices and stored in an audio-visual database.

BUENOS AIRES

The space was designed to be an asymmetric kaleidoscopic formed by two projections and mirrored panels, creating a polyphonic multiplicity, discontinued and immanent, which represents complex urban situations. The space combines dynamically two different ways of interacting: local and remote. Locally, two ultra-sound sensors regulate the scales of GPS information reading the distance between the interactor and the interface. If the interactor is close to the interface, the information level revealed is more abstract, as the pure GPS data, if the interactor is further, it’s possible to see the geographic coordinate of Paulista Avenue. The remote interaction consists in getting the Paulista Avenue sound in real time using the Internet, which influences the rhythm of the projected landscape in the space.

COMMENTS: for the exhibition at Espacio Fundación Telefónica, Buenos Aires, the implementation of the microphone in São Paulo was a collaboration between SESC Paulista Ave. and the artists.

As a territory Brussels has a very singular situation.  From its foundation in 580, passing through the Charlemagne grandson, (1000 BC), Charles V of Habsburg (Spanish Imperious), Flanders, until to become the headquarters of the EEC, the European Economic Community, which has now become the EU -European Union (2003). Today the city to hosts over 120 international governmental organizations, 1,400 non-governmental organizations, 159 embassies and 2,500 diplomats.  Brussels’ role as a central location for European institutions and decisions has increased over the years. For many people in Europe, moreover, the term ‘Brussels’ has replaced the concept of the ‘European institutions’ in everyday language.  Given that almost one-third of its citizens are foreigners or of foreign extraction, the Brussels Region is perpetuating its long tradition of cosmopolitanism based on its complexes social-urban situations.

Gästeatelier Werkraum Warteck PP

Werkraum Warteck PP is a collective project that came up in the middle of the 90’s, based on the experiences of squats and other collaborative spaces in Europe and in Switzerland. More than 40 projects in different studios share concepts around cohabitation, collaboration, collective, contamination, process, open space, renovation, responsibility, exchange, heritage, politics in a permanent provisional open minded project. This situation creates a cloud of concepts around Warteck and an on going flux of events. Werkraum Warteck PP is a creative project, a strong attractor, located in a former beer brewery in Basel.

‘about love and other politics’ is a tagged interview based database project started in 2007 in Werkraum Warteck PP.  The construction of a related concept-tag cloud builds up a structure for an event horizon with Warteck as the attractor which can be modified by the users’ interventions. About 487 tagged fragments of video statements were organized to be played as a continuous non-linear narrative, always different according to the tags chosen by the public. The connected key words organize the visualization of the interviews.

23 interviews with people in the house were realized to talk about their personal work, Warteck itself, about Love and about Politics – are there distinct concepts? Is Love a way to deal with politics? What is understood as ‘Love’ or what does a person understand by this term? A political position to deal with the world around or an emotion to get out of everything? How did the different people drop into this place and what is their attitude towards it? Is it a working/sleeping place or is there a kind of utopia?
